The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Edwin K. Armstrong (ASN: 0-1057667), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 771st Tank Battalion, attached to the 84th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Belgium on 24 December 1944. When infantry troops, which his unit was supporting, were temporarily halted by fire from enemy tanks, Second Lieutenant Armstrong courageously led his tank crew in an attack which destroyed two German tanks and one armored vehicle thus enabling the infantry to attain its objective. The aggressive action and superior performance of duty displayed by Second Lieutenant Armstrong reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
