Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 152 (June 12, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Alfred Leonard Annis (ASN: 33307173), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 13 April 1945, in Germany. During an attack, Private First Class Annis observed two seriously wounded men lying in an open field. Despite severe small arms, automatic and tank fire, Private First Class Annis left his sheltered position and advanced in short rushes until he reached the fallen men. Machine gun fire from the tank covered the field continuously during this time. Undaunted, he half carried and half dragged one of the wounded men to the safety of his platoon’s position and then returned through the unceasing fire to effect the rescue of his other wounded comrade. Private First Class Annis’ heroic actions reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
