The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Albert J. Angelletti (Angeletti) (ASN: 33317254), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving in the 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 23 June 1944 in France. During an attack a battalion command post group, of which Sergeant Angeletti was a member, was displacing forward when the entire group was forced to take cover in the ditches by the road side due to direct enemy fire. While the group was pinned down an urgent call for eighty-one millimeter mortar ammunition was received over a radio. Leaving the protection of the ditch, Sergeant Angelletti, squad leader in the ammunition and pioneer platoon, commandeered an abandoned weapons carrier and made three trips over a road under enemy observation and subject to direct enemy fire, carrying ammunition to the mortar position. His action at great personal risk contributed greatly to the success of his battalion’s attack. The courage displayed by Sergeant Angeletti reflects great credit on himself and the armed forces of the United States.
