The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant Wallace K. Anderson (ASN: 33299590), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 104th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 22 November 1944. Sergeant Anderson left his foxhole when he saw a truck burst into flames after hitting an anti-tank mine. At great risk to his life and in the face of an intense artillery and mortar barrage, he made his way across 250 yards of fire-swept terrain to the vehicle. Despite the flames and concentrated enemy shelling, Sergeant Anderson successfully extricated an officer and two enlisted men who were helplessly trapped in the flaming wreckage of the vehicle. Sergeant Anderson’s gallant heroism, tenacity of purpose, and devotion to his fellow soldiers saved the lives of three of his comrades. His actions exemplify the finest qualities of the American soldier and reflect the highest credit on himself and the armed forces of the United States.
