The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Harrison A. Dickson, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 131st Infantry Regiment, 33d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Chipilly Ridge, France, 9 August 1918. When his company was held up by heavy machine-gun fire, First Lieutenant Dickson ordered his men to lie down and went out alone, facing intense fire, in an effort to capture the hostile nest. Shortly after starting forward, he was shot through the heart.
