The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Edward M. Adlesic (ASN: 33308613), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 13 January 1945, in Belgium. Sergeant Adlesic moved about under withering machine gun fire and mortar fire which had pinned down a platoon for six hours and had already caused eight casualties to shout encouragement and place his men in good firing positions. Although he was painfully wounded, he refused evacuation until he had completely fulfilled his mission. Sergeant Adlesic’s gallant actions cheered his men so that they were able to open fire on the enemy and allow the pinned down platoon to withdraw. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Adlesic, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
