The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Technician Fifth Grade Tice Cain Adams (ASN: 35793902), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 736th Medium Tank Battalion (Special), attached to the 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 24 March 1945, in Germany. Technician Fifth Grade Adams’ tank was in an assault when it was hit by direct fire and knocked out. On the order to abandon the tank, he dismounted his machine gun, climbed out of the tank, and, with the gun in his arms, ran for fifteen yards through enemy fire. With direct fire from anti-tank guns and small arms falling all about him, Technician Fifth Grade Adams courageously opened fire on the hostile positions to cover his comrades’ escape until he was killed instantly by a burst of fire. His gallant self-sacrifice will be a lasting inspiration to his comrades and were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
