The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Stanley D. Wilmore (ASN: 17147079), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 7 January 1945, in the vicinity of Ammerschwihr, France. Having been sent with a patrol to seek enemy defensive emplacements, the patrol was ambushed and pinned down by machine gun, machine pistol and automatic rifle fire. To enable the rest of his patrol to withdraw, Private First Class Wilmore exposed himself, firing his automatic rifle continuously into the enemy emplacements. During this gallant act, he was severely wounded and it became necessary that he be left behind. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
