Headquarters, 63d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 31 (March 11, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Parr C. LaMonte (ASN: 0-1045143), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 254th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 29 January 1945, in the vicinity of Jebsheim, France. When Lieutenant LaMonte’s company was pinned down by stubborn enemy resistance, he proceeded through an area heavily swept by enemy fire to secure vitally needed assistance of tank destroyers, which aided materially in reducing the resistance and paving the way to the capture of over 500 prisoners. Lieutenant LaMonte was mortally wounded by sniper fire on the return trip. His outstanding gallantry is in keeping with the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
