The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant Clyde R. Hagerich (ASN: 33764238), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 3d Battalion, 255th Infantry Regiment, 63d Infantry Division, in action on 3 January 1945, in the vicinity of Lambach, France. After his patrol was stopped in open terrain by heavy enemy machine gun fire from a steep slope, Sergeant Hagerich, as lead scout of the patrol, managed to make his way up the slope, throwing grenades into the emplacement, silencing the machine gun and killing four enemy. During this mission, Sergeant Hagerich was mortally wounded. His outstanding courage and devotion to duty enabled the patrol to proceed and successfully accomplish its mission. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
