The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Victor J. Murauskos (ASN: 32402250), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 692d Tank Destroyer Battalion, 42d Infantry Division, in action on 25 April 1945, near Kaisheim, Germany. While the section of tank destroyers led by Sergeant Murauskos was in reserve, a battalion of friendly tanks was forced to withdraw by heavy enemy fire from dug-in emplacements. Dismounting from his vehicle, Sergeant Murauskos crawled over the crest of a hill, deliberately drawing fire upon himself in order to locate the hostile positions. After eliminating one machine gun nest with his rifle, he called up a destroyer on each flank and directed their fire as they crushed one enemy strongpoint after another. By his courage, professional ability, and aggressive action, Sergeant Murauskos enabled the friendly tanks to resume their advance.
