The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Donald T. Boehmer (ASN: 0-2006330), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 242d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division, in action on 18 April 1945 at Burgfarnbach, Germany. When his platoon was stopped by a heavily defended road block at the edge of town and four men wounded by Panzerfaust fire were lying in an exposed position, Lieutenant Boehmer immediately went into the open street to bring them to a place of safety. While performing this hazardous task, he was under constant automatic weapons and small arms fire and was wounded himself, but refused treatment until he had brought all the men to safety. Lieutenant Boehmer’s gallant action was instrumental in saving the lives of two of the men and obtaining medical aid for the others.
