The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Murray M. MacFee (ASN: 37339335), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 242d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division. On 10 January 1945, at Hatten, France, with utter disregard for his own safety, and in the face of severe enemy small arms and artillery fire, Private MacFee, acting without orders, rescued a wounded American soldier who had been trapped in a tank destroyer that had been put out of action by artillery fire, saving the life of the wounded soldier.
