The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private George Washington Healey, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 29 July 1864, while serving with Company E, 5th Iowa Cavalry, in action at Newnan, Georgia. When nearly surrounded by the enemy, Private Healey captured a Confederate soldier, and with the aid of a comrade who joined him later, captured four other Confederate soldiers, disarmed the five prisoners, and brought them all into the Union lines.
