The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Henry E. Park (ASN: 18108677), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 222d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division, in action on 3 April 1945, at Wurzburg, Germany. During the bitter fighting through the fire-swept streets of Wurzburg, Germany, Private Park observed an enemy tank moving toward his observation post. Braving the concentration of fire from the tank and supporting infantrymen, he made his way to a vantage point within 50 yards of the counterattacking enemy. Opening fire with his rocket launcher, he made a direct hit on the armored vehicle, turning it into a blazing inferno. Running back to his observation post, he took up a position with an automatic rifle and inflicted heavy casualties upon the Germans, thus halting the fanatical attack. Through his indomitable courage and gallant actions, Private Park played a major role in repelling a determined enemy counterattack.
