The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Eddie Burt, Jr. (ASN: 34472788), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 222d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division, in action on 3 April 1945, in Wurzburg, Germany. Private Burt was covering the advance toward the Main River with a machine gun when an enemy anti-aircraft gun began to spray the area with shrapnel. Although wounded by the hostile fire, Private Burt refused to seek cover, turning his fire upon the enemy gun until he put it out of action. Only then did he submit to medical attention. By his outstanding courage and devotion to duty, Private Burt enabled his Company to continue its advance.
