The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Thomas Doran (ASN: 12040775), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 222d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division, in action on 16 March 1945, in the Hardt Mountains, France. While waiting on a Hardt Mountain trail to guide medical aid men into his company sector, on the night of 16 March 1945, Private Doran, seeing enemy artillery wound six men from Company A, immediately left his covered position and administered first aid to the injured men. He then carried each of them to cover to await evacuation to the aid station. This outstanding act of gallantry was responsible for saving the lives of several wounded men.
