Headquarters, 42d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 73 (May 27, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Hector Capinari (ASN: 32000007), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 222d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division, in action on 16 March 1945, in the Hardt Mountains, France. Sergeant Capinari was leading his squad during the attack in the Hardt Mountains when he observed another man fall wounded nearby. Completely disregarding his own personal safety, Sergeant Capinari unhesitatingly moved across open terrain under intense enemy mortar and small arms fire and, after applying first aid, brought him to cover at a point from where he could be evacuated. The dauntless courage displayed by Sergeant Capinari saved the life of the wounded man and is worthy of the highest praise.
