The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Warren C. Dunn (ASN: 0-552026), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 222d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division, in action on 15 March 1945, in the Hardt Mountains, France. When his platoon was held up by enemy machine gun and rocket launcher fire, Lieutenant Dunn leaped to his feet and led his men forward into the heavy hostile fire. As a result of his act the enemy emplacements were overrun, two machine guns and a rocket launcher were destroyed and several enemy killed. Continuing the attack under Lieutenant Dunn’s inspiring leadership, his platoon breached the enemy defenses, captured an aid station, a company command post and the enemy company commander. By his outstanding courage and determination, Lieutenant Dunn enabled his Battalion to capture its objective.
