The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Aubrey Bennett De Lacy, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 166th Infantry Regiment, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Haumont, France, 27 September 1918. Leading a patrol into the town to ascertain whether or not it was still occupied by the enemy, Lieutenant De Lacy came under heavy machine-gun fire. Against greatly superior numbers he continued forward and, entering the town, took two prisoners, from whom he gained valuable information.
