The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Carl E. Wray (ASN: 36766194), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion, 222d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division. On 24 and 25 January 1945, near Neubourg, France, when wire communications were severed by enemy artillery and mortar fire, Technician Wray, who was acting as wire chief, repeatedly went out and in the face of intense enemy artillery and mortar fire restored communications.
