The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Myron R. Christensen (ASN: 56802501), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 222d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division, in action on 25 January 1945, near Schweighausen, Alsace. During a counterattack by his company, Private Christensen observed a companion fall badly wounded. Crawling 25 yards over open terrain under an intense mortar barrage, he reached the injured man and applied a tourniquet to his leg. Private Christensen remained with the wounded man for four hours, loosening the tourniquet when necessary and marking targets for friendly machine gunners with tracers. Upon arrival of aid men, Private Christensen rose to continue the attack when he was struck by a burst from a hidden machine pistol. By his courageous act, Private Christensen saved the life of a wounded man, gave great assistance to supporting machine guns and contributed to the continued advance of his company.
