The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Raymont T. Fuchs (ASN: 36846244), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company I, 3d Battalion, 232d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division, in action on 10 April 1945, near Schweinfurt, Germany. During the all-out attack of our forces against Schweinfurt, Germany, Private Fuchs distinguished himself by his outstanding courage and devotion to his comrades. Although seriously wounded while advancing through a deadly hail of machine gun and rifle fire, he lay in an exposed position and directed the fire of his entire platoon on the well-concealed enemy positions until they were neutralized. Private Fuchs’ gallant and heroic action enabled his comrades to eliminate two machine gun emplacements and to continue their successful assault against the heavily defended city.
