Headquarters, 42d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 131 (July 30, 1945)

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Leonard M. Goldman (ASN: 37594927), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company L, 3d Battalion, 232d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division, in action on 8 April 1945, near Buchold, Germany. When the Infantry platoon of which Sergeant Goldman was platoon sergeant came under fire from two companies of enemy infantry, by using radio, telephone and hand signals and exposing himself to intense fire, he successfully directed tanks to the German position. In the midst of this fire fight, Sergeant Goldman organized several medical aid men and led them to a group of wounded men. While returning to his platoon, Sergeant Goldman was himself wounded. By his courage, tactical skill and devotion to duty, he played a major role in this particular action and was instrumental in saving several friendly troops from possible death or capture.
