The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Stephen Bundra (ASN: 13004830), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 232d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division, in action on 3 March 1945, near Reipertsweiler, France. As squad leader in a combat patrol attacking Hill 301, Sergeant Bundra foresaw the possibility that an enemy machine gun would pin down the entire patrol. Completely disregarding his own personal safety, he crawled up to the emplacement, in the face of intense automatic weapons and small arms fire and with his rifle, killed the gunner and assistant gunner, silencing the weapon and permitting his patrol to continue on its mission.
