Headquarters, 42d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 55 (1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Virginius P. Sebrell (ASN: 13117667), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company H, 2d Battalion, 232d Infantry Regiment, 42d Infantry Division, in action on 6 January 1945 at Kilstett, France. While carrying information of vital importance from his platoon to his company under intense enemy fire, Private Sebrell was severely wounded. In spite of his wounds from which he later died, Private Sebrell struggled on for more than 600 yards to the company Command Post, where he delivered the message and then collapsed. His heroic self-sacrifice and unfailing devotion to duty reflect distinct credit upon himself and the armed forces of the United States and are worthy of the highest praise.
