    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Captain (Infantry), [then First Lieutenant] Alfred A. Yamazaki (ASN: 0-1339499), United States Army, for heroic achievement as a member of Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 22 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On that date Captain Yamazaki led a reconnaissance patrol of Company A into enemy-held territory. Upon reaching the objective, the patrol was pinned down by intense hostile small arms and automatic weapons fire. Captain Yamazaki immediately set up a perimeter of defense and exposed himself to enemy observation while reporting the situation to the command post and calling in artillery fire on the enemy’s position. He then ordered the patrol to withdraw, while he and two of his men courageous fought a rear guard action. The heroism in action displayed by Captain Yamazaki reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry), [then First Lieutenant] Alfred A. Yamazaki (ASN: 0-1339499), United States Army, for gallantry in action while Commanding Company A, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, gallantry in action against the enemy on 28 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On this date Captain Yamazaki led his company in an assault against a well-entrenched and determined enemy. Although the unit was subjected to intense enemy mortar, grenade, and small arms fire, Captain Yamazaki continually exposed himself encouraging his men and directing their fire. When orders were received for the unit to withdraw, Captain Yamazaki, though seriously wounded, refused to be evacuated. Instead he directed the withdrawal of his men to secondary positions. The gallantry and inspiring leadership displayed by Captain Yamazaki reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
