Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 750 (November 23, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private First Class] Frank Yamamoto (ASN: US-56144820), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 23 September 1951 in the vicinity of Satae-ri, Korea. On this date Corporal Yamamoto was a rifleman with a unit which was attacking a well-entrenched hostile force. During the ensuing action the enemy launched a heavy concentration of determined grenade and small arms fire on the assaulting elements, and his squad was on the verge of seeking cover from the intense hostile fire. Realizing that the success of the mission would be seriously impaired if the advance was halted, Corporal Yamamoto assumed command and shouting words of encouragement led his unit on. Despite the heavy enemy fire he courageously led his men until he was wounded by hostile fire. His dauntless effort and aggressive leadership were an inspiration to all who observed him and were highly responsible for his unit being able to secure its objective successfully. The gallantry in action displayed by Corporal Yamamoto on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
