The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Robert L. Wright (ASN: 0-1915570), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Battery A, 15th Field Artillery Battalion, 2d Infantry Division, acting as Forward Observer with Company C, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea on 14 August 1952, while serving as a member of a company sized combat raiding party. During this engagement the enemy poured a continuous flood of mortar, artillery, small arms and automatic weapons fire into friendly troops. The Commanding Officer of the patrol was seriously wounded, and was unable to continue in command. Lieutenant Wright, with complete disregard for personal safety, moved to an advanced position and assumed command of the company, continuing the vigorous assault against the enemy positions. During the engagement he moved from place to place directing the assault, encouraging his troops, and arranging for the evacuation of the many friendly casualties sustained in the battle. The gallantry in action displayed by Lieutenant Wright reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
