The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to First Lieutenant (Infantry) George H. Wright (ASN: 0-2018624), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action in Korea. On 19 May 1951, near Pungnam-ni, Korea, an ammunition trailer of Company B accidentally caught on fire. Realizing the imminent danger that the burning ammunition might explode and ignite other trailers in the area, Lieutenant Wright quickly procured a shovel and dashing to the blazing vehicle commenced tossing dirt on the trailer. Heedless of the danger because of his close proximity to the flames, Lieutenant Wright, continued his attempt to extinguish the fire, assisted by several other men who rushed to his aid. When the blaze was put out, the vehicle was driven to an open area where he removed the smoking trailer. Lieutenant Wright’s heroic action and dauntless courage prevented the destruction of vital ammunition and vehicles, reflecting great credit upon himself and the military service.
