The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Marion T. Wood (ASN: 0-61820), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters, 2d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 23 May 1951, Lieutenant Wood’s platoon was given the mission of accompanying the lead tank platoon in an attack on the vital communications center of Habae-jae, Korea. Immediately after the column began to move forward, it met intense opposition from well-entrenched enemy positions in the heavily wooded sections bordering the route of approach. Harassed by the hostile fire and the imminent danger of mines, the troops were kept on the advance by Lieutenant Wood’s encouragement and leadership. Keeping his unit organized in the face of overwhelming odds and numerous casualties, Lieutenant Wood led the troops to successfully capture the important objective. The aggressiveness and gallantry displayed by Lieutenant Wood reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
