The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Wallace W. Wolfe (ASN: RA-12340040), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Battery A, 82d Anti-Aircraft Artillery (Automatic Weapons) Battalion (Self Propelled), 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 28 May 1951, in the vicinity of Inje, Korea. On this date Private First Class Wolfe was a cannoneer on an anti-aircraft combat vehicle which was in close support of the 38th Infantry Regiment. At about 1000 hours on this, date the infantry company he was supporting was stopped by heavy enemy machine gun fire coming from the commanding terrain along the road. Although he was seriously wounded, Private First Class Wolfe remained on the vehicle and delivered deadly fire upon the enemy positions until they had been silenced. He continued to fire his weapon until loss of blood and exhaustion forced him to stop. The gallant conduct and devotion to duty displayed by Private First Class Wolfe reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
