The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Edwin D. Wolfe (ASN: 35001482), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Aidman with the 129th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Bougainville, Solomon Islands, on 15 March 1944. Technician Fifth Grade Wolfe courageously ran and crawled 150 yards under heavy enemy mortar and sniper fire to assist in the safe evacuation of five wounded comrades. On 19 March 1944, he displayed exemplary bravery in entering an unfamiliar mine field and successfully rescued three wounded soldiers. This task entailed traversing an extremely hazardous route. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Wolfe, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
