The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Corporal] Edward F. Wilson (ASN: 19000035), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 59th Coast Artillery Regiment, in action against the enemy at Corregidor, Philippine Islands, on 26 April 1942. When an officer and three enlisted men were seriously injured by a direct hit of a Japanese artillery shell on the observation post, he voluntarily exposed himself to enemy aerial bombardment and artillery fire and rescued them. Sergeant Wilson’s heroic actions are highly commendable.
