The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Henry W. Williamson (ASN: RA-13313896), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 14 and 15 September 1950 in the vicinity of Yongsan, Korea. During that period his rifle platoon was under continuous enemy attack. On the night of 14 September 1950 he moved to an exposed position and effectively covered the platoon’s flank with rifle fire. Throughout the night, he fearlessly moved about the defensive perimeter and greatly assisted his unit in beating off the repeated enemy attacks. On the morning of 15 September 1950, he single-handedly assaulted a hostile machine gun position, killing the enemy gunner with automatic rifle fire. When his platoon launched a counterattack, he voluntarily moved out in front and was leading the assault until he was struck and wounded by grenade fragments. The gallantry displayed by Private Williamson was a great inspiration to his comrades and reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
