The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Courtney Whitney (ASN: 0-398227), United States Army Air Forces, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States as Assistant Air Judge Advocate, Headquarters U.S. Army Air Forces; Chief of Philippine Regional Section, Allied Intelligence Bureau, and as Chief of Civil Affairs Section, U.S. Army Forces, Pacific Ocean Area, from 24 May 1943 through 30 April 1945.
