The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Captain (Infantry) Kent B. White (ASN: 0-404333), United States Army, for heroic achievement as Commanding Officer of Company G, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action on 1 September 1950 in the vicinity of Changnyong, Korea. On the morning of that date his company was attached to the 1st Battalion in an attempt to block the breakthrough of large enemy forces toward Changnyong. He placed his company in the best possible position to delay the advance of the enemy, but was attacked from both the front and rear by a numerically superior enemy force. He repeatedly visited positions about to be overrun by fanatical attacks, rallying his men to the extent that they fought off the enemy, inflicting heavy casualties upon the hostile force. At about 1000 hours, he received orders to cover the withdrawal of the battalion. By placing automatic weapons in strong points and leapfrogging his platoons, he was able to bring his entire company safely into the new defensive perimeter of the battalion. The heroism displayed by Captain White reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
