The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal [then Private First Class] Grover L. White (ASN: RA-15288801), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of 2d Reconnaissance Company, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 29 November 1950, in the vicinity of Kunu-ri, Korea. The enemy was counterattacking the position of Corporal White’s unit in an effort to retake the hill from which they had been driven. Corporal White moved forward from the platoon’s position and succeeded in bringing back the unit’s truck. Then under heavy enemy moved forward in the truck to an abandoned mortar and its ammunition, loaded them on the truck, and returned to the friendly lines. His action prevented the enemy from capturing the mortar and using it against his unit. The courage and initiative displayed by Corporal White reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
