The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Henry W. Weronick (ASN: 0-205998), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company H, (then attached to Company E), 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 16 October 1951 in the vicinity of Satae-ri, Korea. On this date Company E was in defensive positions being subjected to fierce attacks by a numerically superior hostile force. During this action, Lieutenant Weronick observed a wounded man lying in an exposed position under direct enemy observation and fire. Without hesitating and with complete disregard for his personal safety, he left his covered emplacement and crawled to the wounded man. Due to the intensity of the enemy fire, he was forced to drag the man back over the hazardous terrain to a position of safety before administering first aid. His courageous action on this occasion was an inspiration to the men of his unit and was directly responsible for saving the wounded man’s life. The gallantry in action and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Weronick reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
