The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Stanley J. Weissman (ASN: US-56076090), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 31 August 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On that date, during an attack, the leading elements of the company, of which Private Weissman was a member, were ambushed by a numerically superior enemy force. With no communications within the unit, Private Weissman, realizing the seriousness of the situation, voluntarily made his way through intense enemy fire to make contact with the remainder of the elements. After restoring communications between the platoons, Private Weissman was fatally wounded by an enemy round. The self-sacrificing deed of Private Weissman enabled friendly forces to secure a critical terrain feature. The gallantry in action displayed by Private Weissman reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
