The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Ronald J. Weider (ASN: RA-16293609), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 8 March 1951, in the vicinity of Norunbau, Korea. Sergeant Weider was a mortar observer in Company G while that unit was attacking Hill 281. He was directing mortar fire on enemy positions from a position exposed to intense enemy mortar, automatic weapons and small arms fire. When his radio was disabled, Sergeant Weider advanced to a better observation point from which he relayed fire commands through appointed riflemen. During this action Sergeant Weider was killed by enemy fire. His quick thinking and devotion to duty enabled the company to secure its objective with a minimum of casualties. The gallantry displayed by Sergeant Weider reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
