The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Donald F. Wehrman (ASN: US-52003326), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 27 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On that date Company B was under heavy enemy fire while attacking strongly fortified enemy positions. Due to overwhelming odds, the unit was forced to withdraw. While doing so, Sergeant Wehrman observed an officer of another unit, completely exposed to enemy observation and fire, and unable to move due to a serious wound. He voluntarily advanced to the wounded officer’s position and though under intense enemy fire, with the aid of his men improvised a litter and carried the officer to safety. Sergeant Wehrman, immediately returned to his unit and formed an effective perimeter of defense. The gallantry and devotion to duty and comrades displayed by Sergeant Wehrman reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
