The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Ralph B. Webb (ASN: ER-17262264), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 26 July 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On that date, Company A was attacking a strategically vital enemy-held hill. As the unit advanced it was pinned down by heavy enemy mortar, grenade, and machine gun fire, inflicting numerous friendly casualties. Corporal Webb, upon seeing one of his comrades wounded and exposed to enemy observation and fire, unhesitatingly crawled to his side. After administering aid, he proceeded to evacuate the wounded man to safety, and when only a short distance from safety, Corporal Webb was fatally wounded by an enemy round. The gallantry in action and devotion to duty and comrades demonstrated by Corporal Webb reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
