Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 122 (May 28, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant James N. Webb (ASN: ER-3410733), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Battery B, 503d Field Artillery Battalion, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 14 February 1951 in the vicinity of Chipyong-ni, Korea. On this night, while attached to the 37th Field Artillery Battalion for reinforcing fire, Battery B came under direct attack by a large enemy force. With complete disregard for the small arms and mortar fire which saturated the area, Sergeant Webb organized squads to assist the infantry, put these squads into position, checked outposts, carried ammunition and machine guns to hard hit sectors, maintained liaison with our infantry and the French united Nations’ Battalion, assisted in firing the howitzers and helped in calming the personnel of the unit. Never seeking cover for himself, he moved about continuously and was a source of great inspiration to his comrades during a critical engagement. Sergeant Webb’s gallantry reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
