The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Roger Lee Weaver (ASN: RA-34570645), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 39th Field Artillery Battalion, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 14 February 1951, near Sansong-ni, Korea, Sergeant Weaver, accompanied by another enlisted man, made a hazardous trip down an unprotected mountain road to procure vitally needed signal supplies from the battalion command post. Upon reaching the command post and obtaining the necessary supplies, Sergeant Weaver learned that the enemy had infiltrated and that the return trip up the mountain was no longer safe. Knowing that the supplies were urgently needed to maintain communications for adequate artillery support and fully aware of the perils involved, he unhesitatingly proceeded into the face of danger. While attempting to run the gauntlet up the tortuous trail, Sergeant Weaver was ambushed by the enemy and lost his life. The gallantry and complete devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Weaver reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
