Volney Warner graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1976. He retired in 2006 as a U.S. Army Brigadier General. His father by the same name (USMA 1950) earned a Silver Star in Korea and a second Silver Star in the Vietnam War, and retired as a 4-Star General.

    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major (Infantry) Volney James Warner, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Persian Gulf. Major Warner distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as S-3 for the 3d Battalion, 67th Armored Regiment, 2d Armored Division, in action against an armed enemy in support of Operation DESERT STORM on 26 February 1991. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Major Warner, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
