Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 174 (June 16, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Jack E. Wallace (ASN: RA-16263839), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the Medical Company, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 2 September 1950, in the vicinity of Changnyong, Korea. On that date he was a medical aid man attached to Service Company, 23d Infantry. During a heavy enemy artillery and mortar barrage, he was wounded. In spite of his wounds, Sergeant Wallace left his covered position and went to the aid of the wounded, evacuating them to safety. With complete disregard for his personal safety and under enemy fire, he continued to evacuate the wounded until all were in safe positions. His heroic actions in the face of enemy fire were instrumental in saving the lives of many men. The gallantry displayed by Sergeant Wallace on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
