The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Finn W. Wallace (ASN: 0-1181180), United States Army, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy while serving with Battery C, 77th Field Artillery Battalion. When an M-5 tractor hauling a trailer loaded with high explosives became ignited near Kobscheid, Germany, on 2 March 1945, Lieutenant Wallace fearlessly assisted in uncoupling the trailer and preventing serious damage to personnel and equipment. Although realizing the burning tractor was also loaded with explosives and that his own life was endangered he worked with cool courage to protect the lives of his men and valuable government property. Lieutenant Wallace’s heroic actions and unswerving devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
