The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Alphard Rudolph Vismor (ASN: 0-1688447), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the 1st Ranger Infantry Company (Airborne), 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 13 February 1951 in the vicinity of Chipyong-ni, Korea. On the night of that date he was the leader of the 3d platoon as his unit was infiltrating through enemy lines. As the 1st and 2d platoons crossed a ridge line they were subjected to enemy fire from all sides. Lieutenant Vismor immediately deployed his men and directed their fire upon the enemy, thus drawing the hostile fire upon his unit and enabling the other two platoons to deploy and assume battle positions. Although the area was subjected to heavy enemy small arms and mortar fire, he skillfully held his platoon in position and forced the enemy to withdraw. His prompt action was responsible for the successful accomplishment by his company of a surprise raid deep within enemy lines.; The gallantry and inspiring leadership displayed by Lieutenant Vismor on this occasion reflect the highest credit upon himself are in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
