The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Clifton F. Vincent (ASN: 0-57440), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 3d Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. While attempting to assume defensive positions west of Sanju, Korea, on 27 July 1950, the 3d Battalion was threatened by four enemy tanks converging on a vital road junction. Lieutenant Vincent led forward his 3.5-inch rocket launcher squad and destroyed the lead tank. When the squad was forced to displace due to lack of ammunition, he personally covered the displacement by using hand grenades. Although subjected to constant fire from the enemy and although severely wounded, he successfully bloc ked the advance of the enemy by firing a roadside village. Lieutenant Vincent’s courageous leadership, tactical skill and selfless devotion to duty saved countless lives, served as an inspiration to his men, and reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
